Utah peeps...I have a question for you!

Rebecca and I were born in Utah and lived there until I was 16. We still have most of our zillion cousins and our dear sweet Grandmother living there. We try to go back every year or so. It is usually a girls road trip (Rebecca, maybe our younger sister Erika, our Mom, and sometimes Katrina or our other sister and then our kids which are mostly boys;). We are heading up again at the end of May. Our super talented Brother in Law is recreating a play that he was in during highschool. They are having a set made in Vegas where one of the former play members lives and people are coming in from all over to reunite. (I secretly think it is a really great excuse to show off that new baby of theirs;) A gaggle of us are planning to make the drive to Utah for a handful of days. I love family road trips!

So, I was wondering if you have any must-see or must-do things while we are in Utah. We are going to hit the Quilted Bear in Midvale, and Hogle Zoo. We may or may not hit Lagoon. A picnic in the canyons is a must. Iceburg rootbeer floats are totally in. Is Hardees still around with their ketcup and mayo combination? Memory Grove because we have a great-great-uncle that has a marker there from the war. The Old Spaghetti factory? Is it still around and do they still have spinach tortelini? Specifically I'm interested in great quilt shops and crafty places and good mostly fast eats (my 3 year old is on a feeding tube and I think it is mean to make him sit in a restaurant with food all around that he can't partake of).

Thanks so much!!

***Edited to add...I had no idea my friend Melanie over at Sugardoodle would mention us right now. How perfect is that timing and my question for Utah peeps? I get so excited when she mentions us! Melanie and I grew up together. She is the most fantastic person you will ever meet. It is perfect that as an adult she would put Sugardoodle together.

Kennecot Copper Mine is so cool! Most people who go enjoy their time there. I think it cost like $5-8 a carload!

No Hardee's, but there is Carl's jr.

I'd say you need to eat at Cafe Rio.
I love Millcreek Canyon as far as your visit to a canyon.
Hill Airforce museum is free...

Arctic Circle has the fry sauce you are thinking of and they are everywhere, and they have new sweet potato fries. Yummy! The aquarium while not big is good to kill an hour. Wheeler Farm is fun, This is the Place Heritage Park, Thanksgiving Point (big dino museum), Gateway is fun for shopping. Red Butte Gardens are beautiful.

YES spaghetti factory is still there, both in trolley square and midvally, and YES they still have spinach tortellini (my FAVORITE!!!) if you are looking for crafty, dont miss gardner village (1100 W 7800 S, W Jordan). it is a whole village full of little old houses that each hold a cute little shop. there is a quilt shop there that is to DIE FOR!

Hey--just stumbled onto your blog through sugardoodle! Gardner Village has fun shops--plenty of quilting and stitchery and home dec shops, along with a duck pond. I *think* you can still feed the ducks and fish. My new fav place to eat in Utah county is JCW's near Thanksgiving point or in AF. Yummy! Also, I've heard 5 Guys is great also. Antelope Island is unique. Hope you have fun!

Head to Heber! Dairy Keen is a great burger place for kids with a train theme...then take a ride on the Heber Valley Railroad! if you are headed up at the end of this month, Thomas the Tank will be in town for rides.

I write for a site called mykidseyeview of salt lake city- if there is anything cheap or free that is family friendly, it will be on there. You should check it out! mykidseyeview.com
Also, would recommend checking out the sidebar links especially go city kids and your heart out since they have reviews and all sorts of info on SLC fun!

Great favorites of mine would include: Gardner Village - make sure you visit Pine Needles (a great quilting, sewing shop) - approximately 7800 South - SLC. It also has several other stores, and has events for kids (duck feeding, etc.) Sew N Save - Quilt Shop - Clearfield; Rod Works - Decorating Store - Salt Lake, Layton, Lehi;
Have fun - I am sure you will have too many places to visit and not enough time to do it.

My family just returned from a fun Utah trip, and one thing I highly recommend is a drive to see the two new temples, Draper and Oquirrh Mountain (in South Jordan). Not only were the temples just beautiful, but it was so much fun to look at the new houses and neighborhoods around them, and compare and contrast.

I HIGHLY recommend "Pipers Quilts and Comforts" in Sugarhouse, on 11th East. In my humble opinion, you will not find anything better - high quality, cute patterns and fabrics, and very up-to-date on the trends of today.

I also recommend eating at Cafe Rio.

Hires on 7th East in SLC close to South Temple is a must. Have their fries and fry sauce and a Big H and a cherry limeade. Then drive on down 7th East to Cummings Chocolates (right before Liberty Park) and INDULGE in the world's best chocolate. I recommend the dark rum victoria chocolates or the three flavor chocolates. Ahh, life doesn't get much better than that. I'm going there myself in a few weeks.
