Happy Valentine's Day! Marbled Paper Butterfly Valentines

We hope you all have a lovely Valentine's Day. I hope you think of someone else today. Everyone wants love;) Thanks for following along on our countdown to today. Rebecca and I have had so much fun. We hope you had fun too.

I apologize for the crummy pictures. I thought these were too cute not to share. I made these with my then 3 year old son. He is now 6.

First we made the marbled layer on the top. We took a paper plate and covered it with shaving cream. (These few pictures are from a different craft from today. I wanted pictures to show you how to do it in case your kids didn't do this in Kindergarten.) Drop food coloring onto the top of the shaving cream.
Swirl the food coloring around with a toothpick.
Press your paper on top of the swirled work of art. I would reposition the paper a few times to get good coverage on the page. Then wipe the shaving cream off of the paper. That can get messy. I have left the shaving cream on the paper before and it kind of just breaks down. Then when dry you can wipe it off. Or you can wipe it off and then let it dry.You have marbled paper!!

Back to the Valentine craft from a few years ago...
Then I drew up some wings and cut them out of red paper. I took the pattern for the wings and cut it out of the marbled paper. But I wanted the red to show, so I cut the marveled paper about 1/2 inch smaller all around. On the red paper I wrote the sentiment which was I think Happy Valentine's Day From my son's name.

I bought some old time hard candy sticks from the local Cracker Barrel.

I layered the marbled paper and the red paper. I lined them up and folded them in half. (So it looked like a heart without the bottom point. That is where the fold was.) I made two cuts through both layers of paper. I unfolded the paper and slid a candy stick through the cuts.

So far, I think these butterflies were my favorite Valentines we have made together.
