Something missing from aprons

finished apronThis Saturday, I had some friends and family come over to eat and chat and make aprons. (This one is for our Grandmother.)There were actually two aprons finished that night and a lot of talking and eating also ensued. Everyone left with a full belly and hopefully full hearts too.

I baked some amazing Applesauce Spice Bars. Oh my! They began with a caramel base for the cake and ended with a caramel glaze for the top. (Check out Tuesdays With Dorie baking group for their renditions of this yummy treat.) As I was baking I was thinking about the details I really want in an apron. I am messy when I bake and cook. Most of my shirts have stains on them from not wearing aprons. So I needed a full apron. I also am washing my hands a zillion times when I cook and bake. I need a towel. Oh to have a towel attached to my apron is exactly what I want.

We used some Simplicity patterns for the aprons. You can use any pattern. Just remember when you are attaching the skirt part of the apron, insert a loop to hang a towel. Do you see what I’m talking about with the arrow? It is a loop sewn right into the waistband. loop up closeI took a remnant of the contrasting fabric, about 3 inches wide and 6 inches long. I stitched it into a long tube and turned it out, top stitch along the edges. Fold it over to form a loop. Stitch it into the skirt of your apron. Voila! You have a place to hang a towel right on you. (Although we are going to buy pretty matching ones for Grandma. I just used this one to show you how I am using it.)loop in use

If you are like me, I would rather wipe my hands on a towel than on my pretty new apron. Here Erika is demonstrating how to use it.Erika using the towel

  2. Anjeanette,
It is lovely as usual! I can never seem to remember to put on an apron. I am always washing my hands when cooking/baking. It would be worth wearing an apron just to have a place to hang a towel on me!

  8. What a cute apron! I tried to make one a few months ago and it didn't go so well. Probably because I stressed over the pattern. I should of just simplified it a little bit - lol!

    Thanks for stopping by!
